Bárbara Palomino Ruiz is a Brazilian-Chilean artist, living and working in Vienna. She studied audiovisual arts at Le Fresnoy Studio National des Arts Contemporains in France and Visual Arts with emphasis on Textile Arts, as well as Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Chile. In her artwork, she focuses on mixed and multimedia media creations with a concentration on textiles and the relation between old and new technologies. Her artistic research includes considerations related to the social productions of memory, affective cartographies, fictional aspects in the documentation of “reality”, as well as ethnographic narratives and “invented traditions”.

Barbara Palominos kültüř gemma!-fellowship involved conceiving a new website for philomena+ taking into account its needs and handling tools for a new design. She particularly wanted to increase the visibility of their mission, which is mainly based on promoting dialogue between artists from the MENA-region and artists based in Vienna.
At the same time Barbara participated in the creation of specific audiovisual content for the promotion and diffusion of philomena+ activities and events on its social media channels and its website, and supported its staff through a daily presence in the philomena+ space.
In September 2020 she was invited to collaborate as an artist in the creation of a joint art installation with the artist-in-residence Férielle Doulain-Zouari for philomena+’s project statement at the fair Vienna Parallel. Together they created an on-site installation entitled Knotentopologie.
